Time to Break Out the Orange and Green Yarn

Our 5th annual pumpkin donation is fast approaching!  That’s right, for the 5th year in a row, TPP is creating a baby pumpkin patch at the UIHC and we need YOUR help to make it happen.  We’re talking oodles and oodles of cuteness people!  Simply use orange and green yarn to make pumpkin hats and matching booties.  Afterall, what else are you going to use that yarn for?!

Here is our LARGE donation from last year!  Aren’t those jack-o-lantern hats precious?!

“Back to Sleep” Campaign Update

Since we announced the “Back to Sleep” Campaign in January, we have been working hard to put together all of the details to share with our volunteers.  We hope you will consider helping us with this project!  For those of you who have not heard about this project yet, we’ve included the details below.  If you already know all about this campaign, scroll down a bit for the new details!

What is the “Back to Sleep” Campaign?
As a part of the UIHC, NICUs “Back to Sleep” Campaign, we are providing them with blanket sleepers.  These sleepers are designed to help babies transition from the NICU to their new, home environment and to reinforce safe sleeping practices.  The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends placing babies on their backs to sleep, while wearing a blanket sleeper, instead of using loose swaddling blankets to decrease the incidence of (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) SIDS.

Sleeper sack - crochet version

Recently Linda put out a request for sleeper sack patterns written for crocheters.  I’m not much of a crocheter, but my knit sleeper sack pattern is pretty simple and so I attempted to convert it to crochet pattern.  This is a VERY rough draft, I’ve never written a crochet pattern before, and my technique is pretty basic.  I’m sure more experienced crocheters will have more elegant construction methods. If you try this pattern I would very much appreciate feedback to make the pattern easier to follow and to suggest any improvements in the design.  Here it is:
